Learning to relax
July 28, 2010 6:33 am Health and FitnessIt seems wierd that I had to actually be taught to relax, but at the ripe old age of 33 I have realized that I either never really knew how, or somewhere along the line with college and building a business that I forgot how. Not sure which is the case but the result is the same, I have been stressed out and getting in worse and worse shape, both mentally, emotionally and physically as I’ve gotten older. And I have a wife and baby girl and I was just tired of the person I was around them. I was not the Dad that I always thought I would be, and it really surprised me. And disappointed me. I live in Minnesota hypnotherapy has always intrigued me, especially the connection between hypnosis and meditation. I found someone who offered stress reduction work and I worked as hard at that as I did everything else in my life! (Sounds ironic, but in fact, learning to relax is a skill, and it takes practice like anything else in life.) I am happy to say that not only am I feeling the result, but my wife and others have mentioned it to me. Not only do I feel more relaxed, but I feel like I’m getting more done, too. Like my constant motion thing was counter productive. I even found a quote online from the CEO of Medtronic who said, “If you don’t think you have time in your life for a half hour of meditation every day, then what you really need is an hour.” I would never have believed it before now, but now I do agree 100% with this.
