Originally, though, gabapentin is developed for treatment for epilepsy as the drug is available for use as an adjunctive medication to control seizures. However, in 2002, it was discovered that gabapentin can be used for treating postherpetic neuralgia such as the pain following shingles and other painful neuropathies and nerve-related pain. The exact mechanism of action is still unknown. However, its therapeutic action is proven very effective.
