My mother, whose name is Emily, and her second husband, whose name was Ben, had a custom license plate made that read BEN EM. One day I was riding along in Ben’s big Cadillac helping him do some errands for my mother when Ben decided he needed to put some gasoline in the car. This was approximately 20 years ago when full-service gas stations were quite popular. Now Ben was not a man to pump his own gas, so he pulled into the gas station and the attendant proceeded to fill up the large gas tank. After he finished his job, Ben paid the guy and was getting ready to pull away when the attendant chimed in, “Thanks Ben, say hi to Em for me.” Of course, Ben didn’t get it at first, but soon joined in the joke and we have been laughing about it ever since then.
